You Are God’s Masterpiece

We read in Ephesians 2:10 that “we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (NKJV).

That word workmanship could be translated, “we are His work of art.” “His handiwork. Or as another translation puts it, we are God’s masterpiece. His greatest creation.  His crowning achievement.

I am so thankful that I can embrace who God made me to be in Christ Jesus. The verse above tells us that we are God’s masterpiece. Think about that for a moment. The enemy (Satan) may try to plant thoughts in your head such as you are a mistake, you don’t measure up, you’ve made too many mistakes in your past, God can never use you to accomplish His will, things in your life will never get better, etc. This is a lie! Despite the mistakes of your past, God can still use you to do great things to impact the Kingdom of God.

God doesn’t call you a mistake, He calls you a masterpiece. Yes, even with all your flaws and mistakes, God sees your true value. He loves you and has a great plan for your life. God wants to transform your life through Christ Jesus. Decide today that you will no longer believe the enemy’s lies about yourself. Read Ephesians 2:10 again and remind yourself that you are valuable in God’s eyesight and that you are God’s masterpiece.

Every single one of us needs to be reminded that God thinks we’re amazing. Matter of fact, God says you are beautiful, worthy, strong, and one of a kind.

The Bible says, “You Are Fearfully and Wonderfully Made” (Psalm 139:14-16) KJV

Every woman can choose to believe that her life is a masterpiece in the making. It is so amazing to me, God has placed everything in you, to complete your assignment. Praise the Lord!

God said, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born, I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5) NIV

God has put all the parts of your life in order.  He has arranged and settled every issue in your life that you can comprehend. Even your brokenness. He’s got your whole life in His hands. This means you don’t have to try to be someone else. Be satisfied with the unique person God made you to be. You are custom-made. Uniquely designed.

You are tailored especially for God. And to make sure there’s no question about it, your initials are embroidered in His hand. When something is custom-made, it is fitted uniquely to you. It is crafted with you in mind. You have been custom-made by Almighty God. Your days were ordained before any of them even came into being. In fact, you are not only custom-made, but you are also a masterpiece. In the book of Ephesians we read, “We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.”

God’s greatest masterpiece of creation is you. Did you know that you are an original?   That you were chosen before the foundations of the world. There’s no one like you.  There’s no one with your fingerprint. You have been created with purpose and destiny. You are seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. God created you His own masterpiece.

And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, ⁷ in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. (Ephesians 2:6-7) NIV

What Does It Mean to Be God’s Masterpiece?

God’s masterpiece is something rare, special, unique, of great value. And the best part is that His masterpiece bears the name of its author or creator. That means that as God’s masterpiece, you are His poem (the literal meaning of this Greek word), His sonnet, His artwork. And you carry His name! You didn’t accidentally get your personality. You didn’t just happen to get your height, your looks, your skin color, your gifts. God designed you on purpose to be the way you are. You have what you need to fulfill your destiny.

Strength and dignity are her clothing, and her position is strong and secure ~ Proverb 31:25 (AMP)  

You are God’s Masterpiece

You are God’s own masterpiece. That means, you are not ordinary or average; you are one-of-a-kind original! When God created you, He went to great length to make you exactly the way He wanted you. You’re not meant to be like everyone else; God designed you the way you are for a purpose. Everything about you is unique and everything about you matters. You may feel like your life looks ordinary today, but when you understand your value-not only who you are, but also, whose you are-then you will love yourself more, and you will also love those people around you in a greater way. Realize that because you belong to Him, you are extremely valuable.

Remember, you are God’s special treasure, selected by Him and for Him. You are created in the image of Almighty God. He made you exactly the way He intended, and He equipped you with everything you need. You have the strength to stand strong in the midst of difficult situations, and the wisdom it takes to make good decisions. Understanding exactly whose you are, and how you fit-in God’s plan, creates such purpose, confidence and such identity. You are a person of destiny. You have an assignment and you are full of gifts, talents, encouragement and love. You have rich treasure inside you that people need. You have more in you that you realize, and you can accomplish more than you ever thought possible. Dare to be bold and believe that you are a person of destiny because you can leave your mark on this generation. Understand you are important, and out of your importance, know that you are called to add value to the world around you. No matter where you are in life today, you have potential to increase, grow, to be strengthened, and to move forward. God created you for His good purpose, and know that beyond the shadow of a doubt, you are His masterpiece!

Why Are We Called God’s Masterpiece?

We are called God’s masterpiece because we are fearfully and wonderfully made. We are God’s masterpiece; God’s workmanship; God’s handiwork; God’s chosen – we are God’s new creation in Christ Jesus. When God made you, He went to work, intentionally and delicately crafting your personality, looks, passions, and skills, allowing your imperfections, and planting you, EVEN YOUR BROKENESS are God’s masterpiece. He made plans for you a long time ago and those broken areas of your life, He wants to put back together so that you can shine for His glory, and smile through the storms. No matter what you have been through; no matter what you are going through; HE WANTS TO PUT YOU BACK TOGETHER AGAIN. Let Him.

You can be so confident of this? That He who hath begun a good with in you will perform it until the Day of Jesus Christ.

“Being confident of this very thing, that He who hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the Day of Jesus Christ”. (Philippians 1:6)

Because He declares in His Word: I am His masterpiece created in Christ Jesus to do the good works which He prepared for me. Not because of extraordinary skill, intellect, or lack of either. Not because of anything I do or say, in truth the potential of a masterpiece is in the artist. The masterpiece potential in me is a part of who I am, my destiny, placed within me by God as He knit me together in my mother’s womb. Whatever God makes could, in a real sense, be called a masterpiece.

The psalmist wrote of this when he said, “You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous — how well I know it” (Psalm 139:13–14). NLT

If we look at Scripture, it will appear that God has a plan for us, even before we are conceived. In Jeremiah we read, “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born, I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”  (Jeremiah 1:5)

God has His plan for a child, even before he or she is conceived, not to mention afterward.

And according to Scripture, there is a unique and custom-designed plan that God has in store just for those who have put their trust in Jesus Christ. God selected you and chose you so “that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:7). NKJV

What Scripture says you are God’s masterpiece?

(Ephesians 2:10) – For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

(Ephesians 1:4) – just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love

(2 Timothy 2:21) – Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.

(Psalm 51:10) – Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

(Ephesians 2:6) – and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

What Are the Good works in Ephesians 2:10?

Ephesians 2:10 tells us why: “…God prepared [our good works] beforehand, so that we would walk in them.” Any and every good work that we have done has been prepared by God. … All true good works are God-planned, God-empowered, and God-superintended. He planned it all, and willed that we would do them. That is what God wants to do for you.

If God were to reveal to you today how much He loves you, it would overwhelm you. It would devastate you to think of the love that He has for you considering the way we all behave sometimes.

All He can give us at this point is the down payment of the Holy Spirit, and that alone overwhelms us at times. But in the ages to come, He is going to reveal His kindness and goodness toward us.

As I pointed out earlier, Ephesians says that “we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (2:10). NKJV In addition to “workmanship” speaking of a poem or a work of art, it is a word that speaks of something that is perfect. It carries the idea of rhythm, orderliness, and beauty.

When I look at my life, I don’t necessarily see rhythm, orderliness, or beauty. And I can guarantee that I don’t see perfection. When we see ourselves, we tend to see our flaws. We see so many things that need to change.

But God says, “You are my work of art. You are my poem. You are my masterwork.”

God is not like a doting father who’s oblivious to his child’s faults. Rather, He is your all-knowing, yet all-powerful Father in heaven who can envision what you will be when it is all said and done.

God can look at you and can see what you will become before you have become it.

We look at ourselves and say, “I don’t get it. This doesn’t look like a perfect person. This doesn’t look like a work of beauty.”

But you are a work in progress. It is a process that doesn’t happen overnight. It is going to take all your life on Earth. It won’t be finished until you get to heaven.

Then you will see that you indeed are a perfect work of art — God’s masterpiece.

Reflection:

Look in the mirror and see yourself as God sees you. You truly are God’s Masterpiece! If you can’t see it, why not? Do you have any favorite verses of God’s affirmation that give you encouragement? Try to memorize one of them this week.

Father,

How wonderful that we truly are Your workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which You prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. I praise Your wonderful name that I am Your handiwork – may my life be lived to serve You in word and deed to Your praise and glory, in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN.
