The power of trusting God is one of the most important aspects of our faith. It is easy to say that we trust God, but when we are faced with challenges and difficulties in life, our trust can waver. It is easy to trust God when everything is going great, but it is an entirely different story trusting God in the difficult times.
However, when we truly trust in God, we can find peace, strength, and hope in the midst of any circumstance. Today, I want to share with you three things on how we can trust God more fully in our lives.
As believers in Christ, we can trust God in our everyday lives no matter what challenges we face because of who God is and what He is able to do. When we learn to trust God, we can always trust His timings.
When you say,” I trust God,” do you mean it or is it just lip service. You can choose to trust God, or you can choose to trust the world.
Do you trust God to provide for you in all circumstances? Do you trust him to rescue you from the mouths of bears and lions? Or do you trust things? In circumstances? In relationships, and mortgages, and jobs, and accomplishments? Do you trust in your own power more than in that of God?
Trusting in these other things can be disappointing and exhausting. (In fact, it is always disappointing and exhausting since all these other things are temporary. They do not last. We are happy and secure when we have them, and anxious and depressed when we do not.)
As believers, there are ups and downs along the way. Many of us want to trust God. When times are good, it can feel easier. But when times feel difficult, it is even more important to trust God. God’s unchanging character can give us a firm foundation when things feel unsteady and uncertain.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV)

What Does the Bible Say About Trusting God?
To trust someone, we must believe they are trustworthy. We all trust in something or someone, (even if it is just ourselves.) To trust is to believe in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of something. So, when it comes to trusting God, that means believing in His reliability, His Word, His ability, and His strength. The Bible says that God cannot lie. That He always keeps His promises. That He loves you and has good in store for you. Trusting in Him means believing what He says about Himself, about the world and about you is true.
Trusting God is more than a feeling; it is a choice to have faith in what He says even when your feelings or circumstances would have you believe something different.
Your feelings and circumstances matter and are very much worth paying attention to. God cares about them both. But those things alone are not reliable enough to base your life on.
They can change at any moment, even in an instant. God, on the other hand, does not change. He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow and therefore is worthy of your trust.
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. John 10:27-28
Trusting God is not about ignoring your feelings or reality. It is not pretending that everything is OK when it is not. Trusting God is living a life of belief in and obedience to God even when it is difficult.
How Do You Trust God?
The Bible talks about how much God desires a close personal relationship with each of us. He is not a distant God. He pursues us and loves us and wants to be known by us.
Think of someone that is close to you, a friend is someone you trust, someone you welcome in your home that you would let watch your children or share a deep personal secret with. Why do you trust them?
I would imagine it is because you know them personally, you trust them, and they are dependable. So, how do we learn to trust God? The exact same way. Here are nine steps to make sure you are trusting God:
- Humble yourself before God. To be humble involves leaning on his power and guidance and not going your own independent way.
- Do not depend on you. Do not rely on you. Trust God and his Word.
- Cry out to God. Evening, morning, and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice. Psalm 55:17 (NIV)
- Put God First in your life. Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine. Proverbs 3:9-10 (NIV)
- Run from evil. Arise, Lord! Deliver me, my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked. Psalm 3:7. (NIV)
- Evaluate yourself by God’s Word.
- Listen to the Holy Spirit.
- Rest in God’s Love. But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine. Psalm 33:18-19
- Yield to His authority and will. Resist the devil. Do not allow Satan to entice and temp you. Recognize that your worth comes from God alone.

Why is it Important to Trust God?
What good is a relationship between a husband and wife, or a friend without trust? Trust is not something that magically appears; it is cultivated between two people and grows exponentially as more trust is given.
You might be asking why is it so hard to trust God? It is because trust needs to be cultivated, and spending time with God will certainly help you cultivate that relationship.
Here are some reasons it is important to trust God:
- It acknowledges that God can be trusted: You know, throughout history, God has shown His people time and time again that He can be trusted. He has never failed to keep His promises and has always been there for us. Putting our faith in God means putting our trust in His unchanging character and nature.
- It brings peace: Trusting in God unlocks the peace which surpasses all understanding. It is not just a belief; it is an unshakable conviction rooted in the divine truths of scripture.
- It strengthens our faith: As our faith grows, so does our intimacy with God, as we bear witness to His unwavering faithfulness through the fulfillment of His promises.
- It provides direction: Trusting in Him engenders a reliance on His wisdom and direction, shielding us from the snares of our own fallible perspectives or the opinions of others.
- Brings God’s blessings: Trusting in God yields spiritual blessings beyond measure, including His continuous presence, unparalleled peace, bountiful provision, and unyielding protection. As we walk with Him, we walk in the joy and hope that comes from knowing Him, resulting in the ultimate blessing of eternal life in His loving embrace.
6. God is faithful: God has proven Himself to be faithful to His people. He has always kept His promises and has never let them down. Putting our faith in God means trusting in His character and in His unchanging nature.
God is all-knowing: We have a finite mind with limited understanding, and God knows everything that has happened, is happening, and will happen in the future. Pretty amazing, right? Putting our faith in God means trusting that He knows what is best for us and that He has a plan for our lives, even if we do not understand it.
7. God is all-powerful: Have you heard the expression that there is nothing too difficult for God? It is true! Putting our faith in God means trusting that He is in control of all things and that He can overcome any obstacle or challenge that we face.
8. God is trustworthy: Life has its ups and downs and people will show their true colors and turn their backs on us. If there is one true constant in our life, it is God. He has always been there for us, even when everyone else has let us down, friends and family alike. Putting our faith in God means trusting in His steadfastness and knowing that He will never abandon us.
Trusting God in Difficult Times
When we are facing difficult situations, challenges, roadblocks, detours that we do not understand, one of the best things we can do is to trust God. It allows Him to take the wrong things that have happened in our lives and work them out for our benefit.
We can trust that He is with us through every challenge we face, and we are going to come out stronger in the end.
Romans 8:28 (NIV) says, and we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
At times it may feel overwhelming. But you can be confident that God is still in charge and still in control. He loves us and wants the best for us, and He is there for us in the midst of every challenge we face.
Because I believe in the sovereignty of God, my faith affirms that He allowed these struggles to get our spiritual attention. When God allows a divine disruption, that means it is time for a divine reset.
When our lives feel out of control, it can be a wake-up call—a reminder that even when it may not seem like it, God is in control, and He knows all about it.
Sometimes we cannot understand or make sense of what is going on. Sometimes everything seems unfair.
Sometimes even if you pray without ceasing, it can seem as if heaven remains silent. Sometimes everything seems difficult.
There have been seasons in my life, God has taught me so much about what it means to trust Him. For example, things He wanted me to do, I really did not understand, those where the times, I really had to trust God.
Even when we trust God, we must get comfortable with not knowing everything—not knowing how God is going to accomplish what needs to be done and not knowing when He will do it.
Instead, God wants to direct our paths (see Psalm 23:3; Psalm 37:23), and that means He sometimes leads us in ways that do not make sense to us. If we try to figure everything out, we will experience struggle and confusion. But there is a better way.
Instead, we can completely lean on Him, believing He wants what is best for us. I know it is easier said than done, especially when “life” happens—when we cannot quite see how everything is going to work out and we are tempted to take matters into our own hands.
But Proverbs 3:5-8 says, Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight…
I want to encourage you to trust God completely in every area of your life. Remember that He is always on your side, and He is fighting for you as you go through the challenges in your life. He loves you and always has your best interest at heart, and He is close to you when you are hurting most (Psalm 34:18).
In times like these, we must learn we can trust God—even in difficult times.

How to Trust God Completely?
When it comes to trusting God completely, it first starts with surrender. Surrendering means that we are yielding to the power of God. When we give up our power, we give it all up. We must surrender with our hearts, mind, and words.
Study His Word
When you struggle with your faith and trusting God in all circumstances, open His Holy Word. The Bible is our rule book for living and our instructions in righteousness. Remember the faith chapter, Hebrews 11? Start there and read about the reminders of God’s promises.
If you are wondering what the Bible says about trusting God, the answer is, a lot! You simply have to search and be open and willing to accept His Word for the truth. Then put your faith to work.
In Numbers 11: The Israelites complained, and then Moses complained. But God responded positively to Moses and negatively to the rest of the people. Why? The people complained to one another, and nothing was accomplished.
Moses took his complaint to God, who can solve any problem. Many of us are good at complaining to each other. We need to learn to take our problems to the one who can do something about them.
Remembering What God’s Already Done
When we remember what God has done for us, it’s so easy for us to trust Him with our lives. Can you recall a time when God answered your prayers? Or guided a decision? Led you in a particular direction? Or shuffled all the pieces of what looked like a disaster into a fresh start or unexpected blessing?
Do Not Wait for a Disaster to Happen
Do not wait for something to happen to trust God. Trust him when things are going well. There is no better time than now to begin trusting Him with all your cares and concerns. Nothing is too big or too small to share with Him. If something matters to you, it matters to God. Because you matter to God. (1 Peter 5:7)
Seek Him daily, and you will grow a deep and meaningful relationship that brings you joy, peace and the confidence to meet each day with renewed hope, no matter your circumstances.

Examples of Men and Women Trusting in God in the Bible
When we are faced with difficult situations or even decisions to make, we must trust God. Throughout history, trusting in God was a part of the life of faith they lived. The Bible is filled with stories that showed this trust, even in the face of insurmountable challenges. From Noah braving the flood to Abraham stepping into the unknown, these narratives offer powerful lessons in faith and obedience.
Each story serves as a testament to the strength that comes from believing in God’s plan. Whether it is Joseph’s journey from the pit to the palace or Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt, the message is clear: trusting in God can lead to miraculous outcomes.
These examples not only inspire but also guide us in our own faith journey, reminding us that no matter the circumstance, God’s faithfulness remains unwavering.
Moses Trusted God
Faced with a challenge which seemed beyond his abilities, Moses questioned God. and made excuses. He did, in the end, do what God asked of him, and saw the many wonders and power of what God could do through his obedience.
He witnessed God’s faithfulness to a people of ungratefulness and unfaithfulness when they turned away from God and made their own gods to worship.
He saw God’s protection and provision when God their Rock gave them water from the rock to quench their thirst, and food when they grew hungry.
Most of all, he witnessed the liberation of God’s people and saw God’s faithfulness in bringing them to the Promised Land.
And when the Israelites saw the mighty hand of the LORD displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the LORD and put their trust in him and in Moses his servant. Exodus 14:31 NIV
Abraham Believed God: Trusting God’s Promise
Abraham’s faith that God would do what he had promised to do was built on God’s character. Abraham trusted and believed God, number one, in God’s power. He believed in the God who gives life to the dead. The God who calls into being that which does not exist. Remember when God took Abraham out and said, “Look at the stars and see if you can number them. So shall your descendants be”. Abraham believed that if God could do all of that, he should have no problem fulfilling his promise to me. He believed in God’s power. He believed in God’s faithfulness. He believed in the God who would not lie. Numbers 23:19 says that “God is not a man, that he should lie, neither the son of man, that he should repent. Hath, he said, and shall he not do it? Hath, he spoken, and shall he not make good”?
Genesis 15:6 says, “And he believed in the LORD, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.” His unwavering faith set a precedent for what it means to take God at His word, even when the circumstances seem impossible.
Joseph Trusted God’s Promises
Joseph practiced his faith his whole life long. He clung to God, obeyed Him, and honored Him when he was a slave, when he was unjustly treated, when he was a prisoner, when he was the second most powerful man in Egypt.
Joseph never gave up when things looked darkest, never took personal credit for success, never failed to give glory to God, and was never corrupted by power.
Joseph didn’t give in to self-pity when his brothers sold him into slavery,
he didn’t fight back when he was unjustly treated, he didn’t give up when he was thrown into prison, when he was given power, he used it to help others and not himself, and he never sought revenge for what his brothers had done to him.
At the end of his life, Joseph’s faith was strong and shone brightly for all to see as he looked ahead to the fulfillment of God’s promises. Joseph’s faith did not fail. In fact, his faith grew stronger through every trial. So even though he died in Egypt, he knew the Promised Land was a future reality. God had never let him down. In all he had been through, God had never failed him. He knew God’s promises would not fail and he shared his assurance with his family by reminding them of the promises and commanding that his bones be taken along when God moved them to the Promised Land.
David Trusting God
One thing we can conclude from our examination of David is that God is looking for men and women who are faithful in the small things, thankful in all things, truthful always, transparent before Him and the world, and trust totally in His word.
But the one thing that seems to stand out the most is TRUST. David trusts God so completely that he is willing to face down bears and lions to rescue one of his sheep.
He is also willing to do hand-to-hand combat with the nine-foot giant Goliath because he firmly believes that “The Lord who rescued me from the claws of the lion and the bear will rescue me from this Phillistine!” (1 Sam 17:37).
As a young shepherd boy, David faced Goliath, a giant who taunted the armies of Israel. Armed with just a sling and a few stones, David stepped into battle, declaring, “The LORD, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine” (1 Samuel 17:37).
David’s trust in God’s protection and guidance led to an unexpected and miraculous victory. This story teaches me that no enemy is too big when God is on our side.
Proverbs 3:5-6 says, Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.
When we have an important decision to make, we sometimes feel that we cannot trust anyone, even God. But God knows the best path for us. He is a better judge of what we need than what we care! We must trust him completely in every choice we make.
Deborah Trusted God’s Promises
Deborah was one of those amazingly talented people who were able to do it all. She was a leader, a judge, a prophetess, a wife, and a mother. And along with that, she courageously led her people into battle. Though phenomenally inspirational, her life can leave me feeling like I cannot relate. How did she do it all?
Then Deborah said to Barak, “Go! This is the day the LORD has given Sisera into your hands. Has not the LORD gone ahead of you?” So, Barak went down Mount Tabor, with ten thousand men following him. [15] At Barak’s advance, the LORD routed Sisera and all his chariots and army by the sword, and Sisera got down from his chariot and fled on foot. Judges 4:14-15 NIV
Deborah believed and trusted God in a way that can be hard for us to do. God was real and present in her life. She believed that victory was already hers through God.
If I had this strong of a belief that God’s hand was in every effort of my day, I would be a lot more content with each days’ accomplishments. I would not be so overwhelmed with the busy schedule of my life but would believe that I can handle it because God is on my side.
Deborah described herself as a “mother” to Israel. We can learn from this: Deborah cared about the people she led like a mother caring for her children. She was motivated to serve no matter what the demands were because she cared about the people. Not about the title, or accomplishments, but about caring for others.
Esther: Trusting God to Act Even When You are Afraid.
Have you ever been in a position where you had the opportunity or responsibility to act, but were too afraid? It was expressing what you felt, speaking up for a friend, or even speaking up to a friend. In these moments, our fear of failure, rejection, and humiliation are very real, and so is the dilemma of choosing to either face that fear, freeze up, or run away.
Esther did her part God’s way even during her unfair situation. God did His part by having the king choose her to be his queen. And God worked on the king so that he trusted Esther. God had a plan to use Esther again for His purposes.
Someone in the Bible who understands this dilemma is Esther. As a new young queen, I am sure Esther felt a little out of her element. During a time when her people were in exile, Esther had every reason to keep her Jewish heritage a secret and just try to get by. She was not some great leader who wanted to make huge changes in the world. She was just a young girl who was trying to survive.
But then she was faced with a dilemma. Haman, Xerxes’ right-hand man, had it out for the Jews, and convinced the king to send out a verdict to kill them on a certain date (Esther 3:12-13).
Esther’s cousin and adopted father, Mordecai, asked her to stand up for her people. This was her response:
How am I supposed to see the king? It is known throughout the land, from the greatest of the king’s officials to the common folk who live in the provinces, that any person who approaches the king in the inner chamber without being invited is sentenced to death. That is the law! There is only one exception, and that is if the king were to hold out the gold scepter to that person and spare his or her life. It has been 30 days since the king last summoned me!
“All the king’s officials and the people of the royal provinces know that for any man or woman who approaches the king in the inner court without being summoned the king has but one law: that they be put to death unless the king extends the gold scepter to them and spares their lives. But thirty days have passed since I was called to go to the king.” Esther 4:11
When given the opportunity to step up and lead, Esther said, “No way!” How do you respond when given the chance to step up? Do you freeze up, run away, blame others?
You produce a lot of reasons or excuses for why you should not be the one to act. The excuse Esther gave was valid – she could die! But Mordecai wanted to help her see that the impact she was capable of having was greater than the risk.
“If you stay silent during this time, deliverance for the Jews will come from somewhere, but you, my child, and all your father’s family will die. And who knows? Perhaps you have been made queen for such a time as this. “Esther 4:14
In life, there are times where you may be experiencing pain or hardship but as long as you trust the Lord that He will work in your life, you will see the reason or the purpose behind it.
Esther showed herself to be a godly woman in her response to the request from her uncle. She chose to trust God’s will for her life and to take courage and do what was right for God’s people. She said, “Go, gather all the Jews to be found in Susa, and hold a fast on my behalf, and do not eat and drink for three days, nights or day. I and my young women will also fast as you do. Then, I will go to the king, though it is against the law, and if I perish, I perish.”
You will see that if you trust His perfect timing, you may be able to conquer your challenges and even become a blessing to many. Life is not perfect for Esther, but she had put her faith in the Lord that God will work in her life and trusted God that His timing will always be the right one and the perfect one.
For God to move in Esther’s life, she had to wait for God is go signal to be able to really save her people. If Esther did not wait for God and had acted on her emotions, she may not have been able to save the Jews and she might have had herself killed. Sometimes, our impatience makes it harder for God to move in our lives due to the fact that if you.

Prayer on Trusting God:
Father, in the name of Jesus, thank you for sending your Son to die for me. Thank you for making a way for me to have eternal life with you. Thank you for pursuing me and for bringing me to yourself. I want people to see that your sacrifice has impacted my life. I want people to see that you have changed me. I am your servant, Lord. You have me in this place at this time for a purpose. You created me for this. You have shown me that I can trust you. I want to submit my life to you, Lord. I do not know what that looks like, but you do. I do not know how to do it, but you do. Help me to do it, Lord. Help me to yield my plans and my agenda and my schedule and my to-do list to you. Make me humbly obedient. Make me your servant every day of my life. In Jesus Name Amen.
