Ten Keys to Unlocking Your Destiny
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)
Paul writing to the Ephesians, commented; “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared purposed/predestined) in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10) This also tells us that whatever contribution we were created to bring to the world, we were already given the potentials to carry it out effectively. We are the result of God’s creative, redemptive, and sanctifying, Handiwork work, and we belong to Him. You are of great value to God. You are God’s workmanship in that He sanctifies you and fits you for service. He formed you the way He wants for His own pleasure and purposes; Despite the imperfections we find in ourselves. God knows what He is doing. He uses the sculpting tools of adversity, relationships, challenges, and miraculous interventions to mold us into the image of Christ. And He promises to finish what He began (Philippians 1:6). The goal is “good works” (Ephesians 2:10).
In Jeremiah 1:5 (NLT) “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born, I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.”
You are important to God. As you were growing in your mother’s womb God knew and loved you more than your mother or father. God thought of you even before you was even thought about to your mom and dad. God has a plan for your life all put together before you are even born. An amazing plan that only God can unfold for you. Be happy for the tremendous woman God created you to be. There is no one like you, or can do what you can do in excellence.
And according to Scripture, there is a unique and custom-designed plan that God has in store just for those who have put their trust in Jesus Christ. God selected you and chose you so “that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:7 nkjv).
That is what God wants to do for you.
God also has a calling on your life. The first part of his call is for you to come to know Him and believe in Jesus as your Savior and Lord. He loves you so much that He died for your sins so you could be called to faith. You are a unique person called by God with a unique plan just for you. Remember, my friend: You are not an accident! He uniquely predestined you for greatness.
You Are God’s Masterpiece Created for His Glory
God has created you to be his masterpiece, and that is how He sees you. As a masterpiece, a trophy, you are rare, special, valuable, named, and known. You are anointed, appointed, and called for a special purpose. You are special, with a heart of love and compassion. There is only one of you. You are uniquely hand crafted and designed by the Master Himself. There is no one like you. No one has your fingerprint, or footprint. God in His infinite wisdom has fashioned you with a certain set of unique tools, resources, and talents. Your purpose is not always the most clear-cut path laid before us; sometimes it takes some digging. But the sooner we throw ourselves into servanthood, serving others in the area that God created us for, the closer we come to finding His plan, and purpose for your life. It is God’s unique purpose, His special plan for your life, and it is tailored just for you. Nothing is more important than knowing God’s will for your life.
I am remined of Jonah in Jonah chapter 1. The purpose of a call from God is to serve other people, it’s not just for us. Jonah’s call is for the benefit of Nineveh. When he rejects God’s guidance, not only do the people he was called to serve languish, but the people surrounding him suffered. If we accept that we are all called to serve God in our work—which is probably different from Jonah’s work, but no less important to God, then we recognize that failing to serve God in our work also diminishes our communities. The more powerful our gifts and talents, the greater the harm we are apt to do if we reject God’s guidance to do the work, He called us to do.
The More Powerful our Gifts and Talents, the greater the call.

Solomon, in his wisdom said, “The purposes of a man’s heart are deep waters, but a man of understanding draws them out.” (proverbs 20:5) Paraphrasing this word, “The purposes of God’s heart are deep waters, but a man of understanding draws them out. This means that to know your purpose in the heart of the author of purpose, you will need to be wise enough to seek him to come to the knowledge of your true essence in life. The truth is, leaving God out of the picture of finding essence in life, is the beginning of your journey to discover a false purpose.
Maybe you know exactly what you are meant to do and just need a little nudge. Move forward one step at a time. Whatever the case, I am a firm believer in grabbing your blessings. God wants to give good gifts to His children! (Matthew 7:11) But we need to be in the position to reach up and take hold of all the great things He has in store for us. Functioning in the capacity that we are meant to be functioning in is the first step toward finding our purpose, and destiny. He will open doors we never knew existed, we will meet people we never would have met, and most of all, we will find true contentment in Christ. God told Jeremiah:
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)
According to this scripture, God has great plans and purposes ordained for us before we were born. He has a great plan for your life filled with joy, purpose, and victory, but the enemy also has a plan to steal, kill, and destroy. You can and should expect to face opposition, spiritual warfare from the enemy on a whole new level because he does not want you to step into your destiny and fulfil God’s purpose for your life. The devil is afraid of you discovering your purpose. He is afraid of you discovering who you are in Christ Jesus. So, for him to stop your purpose, he will have to discourage your beginning.
The enemy will place all kinds of obstacles, and roadblocks in your path to try to discourage you, make you afraid, have doubt, even to blame God. He does all this with the intention of delaying what God wants to do in your life to prepare you to step into your God given destiny.
1 Peter 5:8 says, Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
Notice the meanings of the following words:
- “Sober” implies mentally alert and self-controlled.
- “Vigilant” means watchful, awake and alert.
Even though we understand that God is all-powerful and cares for His children, we cannot afford to relax our guard spiritually. It is vital that we recognize that Satan is relentless and wants to destroy us and forfeit our destiny. We must be faithful in doing our part.
God wants to bless you; the enemy is always looking to oppose God’s plans. As believers, we will face times of hardship and trials, while on our journey, but God will never leave or forsake us even when we are under attack.
Psalm 34:19
Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all.
Thankfully, God has our back—He will deliver us from these afflictions. We must ask for that deliverance, and we must learn the lessons and develop the patience that our trials can bring. Sometimes we will even face strong attacks of the enemy when we are faithfully serving God. Know that God can work all things together for your good. Even during your greatest hardship, remember that God has a plan to bless you and bring you closer to Him.
Romans 8:28 says, And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.
God knows everything about you. He knows where you are, and where you are going.
Psalm 139:1-3 says, “You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. 2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. 3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.
Stepping Out into Your Destiny
“YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR DESTINY Stand your ground. . . . Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers. —EPHESIANS 6:14–18, NLT Do not be a victim. Call the shots and change your destiny. Be proactive and decisive as you declare God’s Word over your life. God has given you the promise that whatsoever you declare in Jesus’s name will be done (John 14:13–14), so you can be all He intended you to be on the earth—a shining example of God’s goodness and love.”
― Cindy Trimm, Commanding Your Morning Daily Devotional: Unleash God’s Power in Your Life–Every Day of the Year
You are appointed by God which means that you are chosen by God to fulfil the destiny He has for your life (John 15:16). Stepping into your destiny, and your purpose requires faith, trust, obedience, and courage.
This is exactly the reason why you need to be willing to step out of your comfort zone in faith, trusting God and being obedient to His guidance in whatever He is doing in your life even if you do not understand it and it does not make sense to you at the time. “God has intrinsically placed some things in you so you can fit in a particular place of purpose. I believe everyone has a purpose and the God-given tools to fulfill that purpose.
You need to let go and let God take control of the driver’s seat of your life because He already has your life all figured out. What you need to do is step aside and let God work in you. In other words, let go and let God.
Before stepping into your destiny, God will take you through a time of preparation, where He works on you, molding you, shaping you and refining you to become the person He knows you can be, a vessel of honour (2 Timothy 2:21).
Here Are Ten Keys to Unlocking Your Purpose and Destiny
1. Accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior
2. Receive the Baptism in the Holy Spirit
3. Trust God’s path and believe He has good plans for you
4. Make it a priority to spend time with God in His Word
5. Fill your heart and mouth with the Word of God and believe those things it says will come to pass
6. Persevere in faith, knowing that God can work beyond your natural abilities and equip you to do the impossible
7. Be obedient to turn from sin and disconnect from all that prevents you from discerning God’s direction
8. Develop a heart of gratitude and praise to God for all the blessings He bestows upon you
9. Let patience work: God has a better plan
10. Plant God’s Word in your heart, cultivate it and give it time to produce.
ESTHER WENT THROUGH A SEASON OF PREPARATION
awomanaftergodsownheart.org
Esther had to go through a season of preparation before her chance at meeting the king. That time of preparation was both a time of learning royal etiquette, and beauty treatments called tamruq which is like polishing.
When the time comes for you to step into your destiny and fulfil your God given purpose, your calling, God will go above and beyond to make sure you move even if it means shutting doors in your life to get your attention and redirect you. You may feel like you are not ready but just because you do not feel ready does not mean that you are not ready to God.
Only God knows when it is time for you to step into your destiny and God’s timing is not dependent on the circumstances you face in your life which is why you need to take courage and step out in faith into what God has been preparing you for, your destiny.
The good news is, regardless of the efforts the enemy makes to get in the way of your destiny, he cannot stop you from stepping into your destiny and fulfilling God’s purpose for your life.
Even when we are during our hardest trials, God still has a plan for us. When Daniel was thrown in the lion’s den, it looked like the end, but God brought him through. When David was facing Goliath, it looked like the end, but God gave him victory. And when Jesus died on the cross, it looked like the end, but God defeated death and the enemy! No matter where you are, God has a plan for your life. Your expectations and faith in Him do not change based on your circumstances because God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and He works all things together for your good.
Align your faith with the great plans God has for your life. Raise your expectations to what He has for you by planting His thoughts in your heart and resisting the attacks of the enemy. When your faith lines up with God’s vision for your life, just like the faith of the blind men, your eyes will be opened to see how He is working in you, for you and through you!
