“And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.” (Mark 1:35)

As we go about our day, we are more likely to think about God, pray to Him, look for how He is at work in us if we have spent our first moments of the day in His presence.

We can “wait in expectation” that He is going to do something great in us each day as we draw closer to Him by giving Him our time. When we spend time with Jesus, we know that something good is going to happen to us and in us. How do you start your day with Jesus?

Here are Several Practical Ways to Start Your Day with Jesus.

1.Start your Day with Jesus in Prayer

Spend time praising God and thanking Him for all He has provided to you. Jesus often sought alone time with God in the early morning. Follow Jesus’ example in starting your day off right. He rose early to pray and speak with the Father.

“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, He got up, went out, and made His way to a deserted place. And He was praying there.” Mark 1:35

Jesus intentionally chose to spend time alone with God. Just as Jesus did, God wants to hear from us first thing in the morning too.

Begin each day by placing God first priority in your heart. When you put first things first and spend time with God your heart will be comforted, encouraged, confronted (with love and truth), and instructed. Get in God’s Word, His truth, then submit your day to following His will and guidance.

When you do, you will be brought into intimate communion with God – knowing and enjoying Him in the hurried and unhurried moments. You will start your day with Jesus and be refreshed. Mornings with Jesus should start by reading scriptures and prayer!

So, make the most of your morning by seeking God first. Start your day with Jesus. You will be less stressed, more energized to love others, and more devoted to your daily walk with Jesus.

2. Have a daily quiet time.

Allocate some time each day to spend with God. By beginning your day with God, you can effectively ask God to guide you in every thought, action, and deed throughout the day

3. Study God’s word daily

God has left us with the instruction manual for life, the Bible. One of the most effective ways to understand God’s plan for our life and gain His perspective and wisdom is to study His word each day. Again, start out with a manageable amount of time and see what happens. Jesus teaches us in Matthew 5:6, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for His righteousness, for they shall be filled.”

4. Start your Day with Jesus with Gratitude

Thanksgiving has the power to change our trajectory. Gratitude is a powerful antidote to a world filled with worries frustrations and stress. Who should our gratitude be directed at? Our creator: he is the one that deserves the praise and gratitude for the good things he has done in our life. The Bible even tells us in Ephesians 4:6 that the peace of God will guard our hearts when we are grateful.

5. Start your Day with Jesus by Resting in Stillness

Before you start your day, practice being still. Do not rush out of bed to check your emails. This means waking up a little earlier to be in the presence of God. Take a moment to be reminded of who He is in your life. He is currently watching over you and protecting you from harm. Before you begin your day,

“Be still and know that He is God.” Psalm 46:10

God tells us to rest in Him and let go of our concerns before the day even starts. When we stop moving and practice being still, we can recognize the truth of God – that He is the one who is in control.

When we spend time with Him first thing in the morning, He reminds us of who He is and what He can do. He knows how to ease our hearts and guide our lives according to His will. When the worries of the day come in full force, we can lift them up to God and trust in Him. Be still, believe and be alert.

“Father, in the Name of Jesus, thank you for your loving kindness, your mercy, and your grace. Let me hear your voice today for directions and instruction, in the Name of Jesus, I realize that as a believer, my body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. My acknowledgment of Your presence on a daily basis makes my faith in You effectual. I believe that You, heavenly Father, are leading and guiding me by the Holy Spirit through my spirit and illuminating my mind.

As I yield to the Holy Spirit, I believe that my steps are ordered of You, LORD. I commit and trust myself to Your guidance, expecting You to cause my thoughts to become agreeable to Your will, so my plans will be established and succeed. I trust in You, LORD, with all my heart and lean not on my own understanding. As I acknowledge You, you direct me in paths of righteousness.

From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Psalm 61:2 KJV

I seek you Lord, first thing in the morning. Allow me to rest firmly in your presence. God, you tell us what really is – discerning truth from the lies of the world. You are the one in whom I believe. In your truth lead me in your way. I lift my eyes to you all day long. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

First thing in the morning, start your day with Bible Confessions! The Bible tells us to seek first the Kingdom of God, so reading and confessing scripture in the morning is a great first step every day.

Here I have collected a few Bible verses for the morning to motivate and encourage you through the day. May these scriptures help your walk-in faith as a refreshing reminder every morning.

“Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.” (Psalm 143:8)

Lord I want to hear your steadfast love every morning. Teach me the way I should go, for to you, I lift my soul.

Lord thank you that your steadfast love never ceases; your mercies never end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life. (Psalm 143:8 NIV)

Lord, I put my trust you. Show me the way I should go. For you are my life.

Because of the Lord’s great love, we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22-23 NIV_

Lord, because of your great love for us, we are not consumed. Great is your faithfulness.

In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly. (Psalm 5:3)

Lord, thank you that you hear my voice, I lay my petition before you and I wait expectantly.

Early Morning with Jesus

There are certainly many benefits when we decide to begin our day with Jesus, one of them are certain, Jesus in the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was praying there.

The Word of God is spiritual food for the soul. Consider what you read. Meditate on the word day and night. Let it wash over you. Ponder it and apply it to your heart. You will be nourished and set up for the day ahead. By spending your mornings with Jesus, you are obtaining spiritual food for the inner soul and being nourished to grow more into the image of Christ.

Notice, when Jesus went to pray, no one was up that early. People was still asleep. This practice did not occur when others were up, but before the day began … before other people or circumstances demanded his attention.

But early mornings don’t have to be the only time we spend with him. We should be in constant communication with the Father all day, talking to him about our issues, our different challenges, our family, our desires, etc.

And in the morning, a great while before day, he rose and went out to a lonely place, and there he prayed. (Mark 1:35)

I delight meeting with Jesus in the quiet of the morning before my family rises.

He simply wants a relationship with you! Just remember that none of us are perfect and that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Will you be less blessed if you skip a morning with God. No. Will God stop meeting with you because you forgot to put Him first? No.

Are you still saved and loved by God? YES. We don’t do these things to get into God’s good graces—we’re already living in them because we said yes to Him. Jesus prioritized us and sacrificed His life, so that we could live an abundant one.

A Savior like that is more than worthy of the sacrifice of our time we set aside to fellowship with Him.

We see constantly throughout scripture Jesus rising early to go and pray. If Jesus, who is our model, did this every day without fail, we need to be doing the same thing.

Psalms 5:3 says, “In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.”
