Every year during the summertime, we have the pleasure of our children being at home. I enjoyed this time with my kids, because it was time we could spend together as a family. Church, traveling, picnics, parks, zoo; there were so many enjoyable things we could do as a family.
But now it’s time for the children to return to school. And I like praying prayers over my children, grandchildren, teachers, administrators, office workers, cafeteria staff, cleaning crew, etc. Even though we are not with our children while they are away, we can pray a prayer over them, and cover them in the blood of Jesus.
We always make sure that our children have everything that they need for the school year. Even so, as parents, we should spend enough time in the morning praying over our children, covering them in the blood of Jesus, speaking God’s Word over them, speaking good things over their lives, and just helping them to have a smooth transition when they are away to school.
Pray these prayers over your children, teachers, administration, custodial staff, cafeteria staff, aides, office workers etc.
While some schools are still closed, others are prepared for a full return. There are still so many unanswered questions from parents, and teachers. Question such as: How will the day-to-day school activities flow? How will lunch and breakfast be prepared? What about sanitizing areas? So many questions.
It’s essential to keep in mind the importance of prayer. I always say: “Never leave home without it”. We pray and ask God to bless and guide our children’s paths, to protect them and to offer ongoing guidance as our children embark on new and unchartered back-to-school scenarios.
How Do I Pray Over My Children?
You can begin each morning with a short prayer over your children. For example, by calling their names: Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray over Bill, Linda, and Sue, in the name of Jesus. I cover them in the Blood of Jesus. Your divine angels are always surrounding my children wherever they go and wherever they stay. You protect them 24/7 from evil, harm and danger. You can also pray:
“Father, in the name of Jesus, I ask You in the name and through the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ to bind and rebuke Satan and to put a hedge of protection around each one of my children and family, to keep and protect them. To surround them wherever they go. In the Name of Jesus.
‘Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in … [us] will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ’ (Philippians 1:6). In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.”
Praying Scripture Over your Children
A great way to create a habit of diligently praying over your children is to pray scripture over them. Washing your children in God’s Word as your prayer can be such a blessing. It also helps us to hide God’s word in their hearts and keep our prayers in line with scripture instead of our own desires.
For years I’ve used Scripture and prayed for my children in all circumstances. I’ve prayed for strength, compassion, kindness, wisdom, and protection. The Bible says in Hebrews 4:12, “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” This means God’s Word lives and breathes.
In an upsetting world, praying peace over our children’s mind will cover them, and keep them at peace during the day. Parents, we need to take all this in consideration, because there is an enemy that comes to steal, and to kill, and to destroy, Jesus said, that I’ve come that they might have life, and have it more abundantly. John 10:10. We speak life, abundant life over our children. In Jesus Name. We can be sure when we pray for our children, and plead the blood of Jesus over them, they are protected.
Be assured that God has left us promises in the Scripture that we can hold on to. The enemy knows that if he can distract us with fear, are what’s going on in the world, then we cannot excel in faith! But we are told not to fear about anything! II Timothy 1:7 says, For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
Here are Some Powerful Scriptures to Pray Over Your Children.
My children can do all things through Christ who strengthens them. (Philippians 4:13)
My God supplies all my children’s needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. They see God move for them and on their behalf, and know God for themselves as Provider and Father (Philippians 4:19; Genesis 21:17)
Greater is He who is in my children than he that is in the world. (John 4:4)
God has not given my children a spirit of fear, but of power, of love, and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7)
My children have great peace, for they are taught of the Lord. God is teaching and talking with my children today (Isaiah 54:13)

My children have the mind of Christ, an anointed mind. They are quick to learn and have success in school. They are renewed in the spirit of their minds. Like Daniel, they stand for God and God blesses them with skill in learning, in wisdom, and in understanding. In all matters they are found to be ten times better and smarter than the devil’s children. (1 Corinthians 2:16; Daniel 1:8-21; Ephesians 4:23)
I bless the Lord with all that is within me and bless His Holy Name, for He loads my children with benefits and declare them to be in operation in my children’s lives. The Word of God that I am declaring over my children will not return void. It’s power and nature is producing life in my children. It is rejoicing their hearts, restoring their whole person, enlightening their eyes, and making them wise; moreover, by it my children are warned, and in keeping it, they experience great reward. (Isaiah 55:11; Palm 19:7-11)
My children give no place to the devil today. They overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of His testimony. They are strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. They are covered in the whole armor of God, and the shield of faith quenches all the fiery darts of the wicked one. They resist the devil who flees from them this day.
My family is walking in the fruit of the spirit, and I will follow the quickening of the Holy Spirit. Together and as individual believers, we will not grieve the Holy Spirit. We will not let the sun go down on our wrath. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are in operation in my family. I thank you, Father God, for the anointing to raise my children to fulfil Your plan, Your will, and Your purpose, in Jesus’ Name (Ephesians 4:26-30; Revelation 12:11; Ephesians 6:10,16; James 4:7; Galatians 5:16,22; 1 Corinthians 12:7).
Father, we seal these scriptures over our children in the Name of Jesus. Amen!

BACK TO SCHOOL Prayer for: HIGH school and College STUDENTS
Regardless of the age of our children, they too need prayer. There is so much that can influence our children, we want to step in and intercede for them, and keep them covered in the blood of Jesus. We will not allow the enemy to distract our children.
The Bible tells us repeatedly in His Word how all our children are a gift from God. Every single life, every single child, is a reward and blessing. God knows that our children can bring us closer to Him and help grow our Christian character. Be encouraged by the following prayer as we cover our children and speak the Word of God over them!!
Father, I come to you in the name of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I boldly come before your throne of grace to intercede for my children as they go back to school.
Lord I commit my children into your loving and safe arms, and I pray forth your perfect will over their life. Draw out of them every seed you planted in their soul before time began (1 Corinthians 3:7). Mold them into everything you designed them to be. Lead us clearly, Father, into your plans and purposes and reveal them to both of us according to Amos 3:7. I ask you to protect them, to put a guard around their heart, and help them to hear your voice clearly and obey Your Word.
As our children goes to school today, I ask you to help them be a light in their school (Matthew 5:14). Go with them and reveal yourself to everyone through them. Anoint our children mind for their schoolwork and give them wisdom (Proverbs 2:6) and favor (Proverbs 3:4) in their school. I ask, you Lord, that you would grow their spirit as you grow their intellect.
Lord, I pray that you would put our children in the right classroom with the right teacher(s) and classmates for this season in their life. Draw the right friends to them that you selected long ago and help them to minister to each other. (Ecclesiastes 4:10)
Speak to our children’s heart and give them the strength to stand their ground when they are fighting for truth. Help them to be a voice of truth and justice and give them the courage to honor you even when it’s unpopular. Draw our children’s heart to their hearts of the outcast, heartbroken, and lonely. Give them compassion and tenderness towards those who could use a good friend. (Psalm 82:3)
Lord, even though it is hard for us sometimes to see our child struggle, I trust that you are in the midst of it, and you are using everything for their good—to mold and shape them—to sharpen them— to groom them to be successful in your plans for them. (Romans 8:28) Help us to trust you completely. Help us to know what to pray and when to pray and how to pray. Reveal your plans to us so that we can be of service and never hinder them.
By faith we know that you are showing us how to parent our children and how to pray for them. I thank you for having your hand on our children and on us. (Psalm 37:23) I thank you for your never-ending love and mercy. In Jesus’ precious and mighty name, I pray. Amen.
Prayer
Father, Your Word is true, and I believe it. Therefore, in the Name of Jesus, I believe in my heart and say with my mouth that the Word of God prevails over my children. Your Word says that You will pour out Your Spirit upon my offspring and your blessing upon my descendants. I believe and say that my children are wise and that they take heed to and are the fruit of godly instruction and correction. I love my children and I will diligently discipline them early. Because of that, they give me delight and rest.
Father, I take Your Word that says You will contend with him who contends with me, and You give safety to my children and ease them day by day. They are blessed when they come in and when they go out. I confess that You, Lord, give Your angels special charge over my children to accompany and defend and preserve them. I believe they find favor, good understanding and high esteem in Your sight, Lord, and in the sight of man.
I confess that my children are disciples taught of the Lord and obedient to Your will. Great is their peace and undisturbed composure. I believe I receive wisdom and counsel in bringing up my children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. And Your Word declares that when they are old, they will not depart from it. So I commit them to Your keeping and I know and have confident trust that they are watched over and blessed of the Lord all the days of their lives, in Jesus’ Name.
