October Bible Reading Plan 2024

Welcome to the October 2024 Bible Reading Plan! If this is your first time here, then I am so glad to have you! Each month I create a monthly Bible Reading Plan to help you enjoy reading God’s Word and encourage your hearts to be faithful to Him.

October is my favorite month of the year, and I can honestly say, I am hoping to soak up every moment!  As the summer ends, and we get back into a normal routine, I encourage you to make reading the Word of God and communing with Him through prayer a priority in your daily life. Just remember, we are in this for the long haul. This month Bible Reading Plan focuses on God’s Heart.

Here are tips for building a habit of staying in the Word this month and the months to come:

Choose a specific time and place for your reading until your habit is well established.

  • Do not beat yourself up if you miss a few days! Simply set aside time to get cozy and get caught up.
  • Read along with a family member or close friend and share what God is teaching each of you through the passages.
  • Just enjoy reading God’s Word.

This month, we are going to dive deep into scripture to learn about God’s Heart. The most important step we can take as Christians is to pursue God’s Heart.

What thoughts come to mind when you think of God? Do you wonder what he is like, what he thinks about you, or what he wants for you?

The good news is that we do not have to go far to find answers. God tells us all we need to know about who he is and what he is like—about his …

God just wants to spend time with you. God’s heart is saturated in love—a perfect love—and everything he does for you is with that love.

God longs to be known by you. He longs for you to be available to simply seek his heart and get to know his personality, the nature of his love, and the availability of his presence.

You do not have to live without a real, revelatory knowledge of God’s heart. You do not have to live with the uncertainty of whether you are cared for, provided for, and loved.

“Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10

A Prayer for October

Father, as we step into this beautiful month of October, we come before You with hearts open and eager to know You more deeply. Lord, we seek to understand and embrace Your heart, which overflows with love, compassion, and mercy. Father, help us to see the world through Your eyes. Let our hearts break for what breaks Yours and let us rejoice in what brings You joy. Teach us to love others as You have loved us, with a love that is patient, kind, and selfless. In this season of change, may we be reminded of Your unchanging nature. Your heart is steadfast and faithful, always reaching out to us with grace and forgiveness. Help us to reflect Your heart in our daily lives, showing kindness and compassion to those around us. Lord, we pray for the strength to align our desires with Yours. Guide us in our decisions and actions, so that we may walk in Your ways and fulfill Your purposes. Let our hearts be a reflection of Your heart, shining Your light in a world that so desperately needs it. Thank You for Your endless love and for the gift of knowing You. May this month be a time of growing closer to You and understanding more of Your heart. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

How to Read God’s Heart

Is it possible to know the heart of God? Yes! As a believer, you are given the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16). You can know God’s heart, will, purposes, and desires through Jesus.

Putting your trust in Christ, understanding who He is, and surrendering your ways to Him are the first steps to knowing God’s heart.

God wants you to seek Him with all your heart, and He promises that when you do, you will find Him (Jeremiah 29:13).

To know God’s Heart, you must understand who He is. You can know about someone, but this differs from knowing someone personally.

God’s heart is that you know Him intimately and personally through Christ. Understand who God is by reading about His character and heart revealed in His Word.

Jesus has made a way for you and me to know the heart of God, and His heart is for you to walk in your purpose.

Ephesians 1 says God predestined you to be adopted by Jesus for a unique purpose, according to His good pleasure. Many are searching for their purpose in life.

The only way to walk in your true purpose is to surrender your ways to God. His heart is that you know Him and live the life He created for you so you can impact others for His kingdom.

“[The Lord] made their hearts, so He understands everything they do…the Lord watches over those who fear Him, those who rely on His unfailing love.”  (Psalm 33:16, 18)

David A Man After God’s Heart

David was a man after God’s own heart. He was moved by what moved the heart of God. He wanted to know how God felt about life. He wanted to be intimately acquainted with God’s ways of doing things and why He did them.

He wanted to be passionate toward God. David was after God’s heartbeat for the world. God’s heart desire is that we pursue Him with all our heart as David did, abandoning ourselves to His purposes and plans.

Obviously, obedience is way to touch the heart of God and cause your heart to beat with His. He called David a man after His heart, a man whose heart beats in alignment with His heart, this has always been an amazing statement to me.

I have heard it taught that David was a man after God’s heart because He worshipped Him. I have heard it was because He wanted to build God a house. I have heard many things but as I was studying today, I came across something else David did that obviously touched the heart of God.

In 1 Samuel 24 we see that God has told David that He would deliver his enemy into his hand and David was free to do with him whatever he chose. God was bringing Saul across David’s path and Saul’s future was in the hands of David.

Most of us would love to hear God say, ‘I am bringing your enemy before you, do whatever you want to him, you have my permission, it is entirely up to you.’ And most would take advantage of that opportunity and remove that enemy from our midst. But what did David do?

When God brought David’s enemy across his path, David cut a piece of fabric off his skirt, I would imagine in pride saying, ‘I could have taken you out at any moment.’ However, the bible says that even that act caused David great remorse, and he regretted it. David said in his heart that he could not touch God’s anointed.

Now, keep in mind, the anointing had departed from Saul, yet David knew he was once chosen by God, anointed by God and he refused to touch him.

David had an opportunity to take out the one person the enemy was using against him, but he refused – he refused to take the opportunity given.

God gave David an opportunity and David took the high ground. He touched the heart of God and God called Him a man after His heart, a man whose heart beat the same as His. How many times could God have judged one of us, taken us out because we refused to obey His way, yet He showed mercy and forgiveness and extended His grace and love to us – just as David did with Saul that day – His heart beat the same as God’s.

In thinking of this opportunity given I think about the many times that so many will be given an opportunity to talk about someone who was once God’s anointed, they have the opportunity to destroy them with words – do they take that opportunity, or do they do like David and take the high road?

Sadly, many feel like God has given them the opportunity and it is their duty to take them out – that is NOT God’s heart. God always extends mercy, forgiveness and love and I thank God He does, because I need it personally on a daily basis.

This has caused me to re-evaluate times that are opportunities given – to not see them as I once would have – but to see them as an opportunity to allow my heart to beat as God’s would, a time to show mercy, love and forgiveness – a time to be called a woman after the heart of God.

David submitted himself to God and tolerated no one who set themselves against God. He loved God and he loved the Word of God. He valued and treasured God’s Word—it was extremely precious to him.

He opened his heart to receive the Word of God, and he also opened his own life to be scrutinized by God. He invited God to check out his heart, to bring correction to his life, to set him straight, and lead him in the way he should go.

If you want to be called a man or a woman after God’s own heart, follow David’s example. Humble yourself before God; love Him; love His word; submit yourself to His word; honor Him; obey Him; and unashamedly worship Him alone.

That is my hearts cry – how about you? Be careful of opportunities given, God may give them, but He is still watching how you will handle it – take the high road…every time, allow your heart to beat as His.
