November Bible Reading Plan
Welcome to November, and the season of Thanksgiving!
Be thankful. Be grateful. I am reminded that we should not actually need a national holiday to practice thankfulness. In fact, being thankful and rejoicing in the Lord is actually part of God’s will for us (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
So while we spend the month celebrating all that November and the Thanksgiving holiday brings, let’s also remember all that God has done for us and press into our call to give Him our utmost thankfulness. Our Bible reading plan for November is being thankful in all things!

Being thankful in all things starts with an understanding of God’s sovereignty. We trust that He is in control, orchestrating every detail for our good and His glory.
This trust breeds a sense of peace and confidence, allowing us to find joy in His presence even when our external situations seem bleak.
The act of giving thanks becomes a spiritual discipline that aligns our hearts with God’s will, turning our focus away from what we lack and onto the blessings we often overlook.
In scripture, we find numerous exhortations to give thanks: “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
This verse and others remind us that gratitude is not situational. Instead, it is a constant acknowledgment of God’s goodness, mercy, and unchanging nature.

What Does It Mean to Be Thankful in All Things?
Being thankful in all things involves a heart posture that recognizes God’s hand in every situation, whether good or challenging. It is about finding joy and expressing gratitude for His presence, provision, and sovereignty, even when circumstances are difficult. This mindset shifts our focus from what we lack to what we have, acknowledging that God uses every moment to shape our character and faith.
Paul, who was shipwrecked, beaten, left for dead, abandoned, and jailed during his ministry, says, rejoice and be glad at all times, in everything. He wrote those words while chained to a guard. Rejoice in the Lord, always! I Say again, rejoice!
David, who had much to complain about, but instead praised God for his troubles. He was being chased and hunted by the king just because he was good with a slingshot. Yet, David praised God for problems.
And Job, we cannot forget the man whom God allowed to lose everything. Job lost all he had, everything, and then his friends ridiculed him and said it was his fault he had so many problems. At the end of his suffering, Job said he had known God, but in his trials, he had seen God. Job was thankful for his sufferings. They helped him see God, not merely know God.
This kind of thankfulness pleases God. It is easy to be thankful for the good things, and God gives us plenty of those, He lavishes us in grace and mercy every day. But what is our first thought in times of trouble? Is it thankfulness.
By cultivating an attitude of thankfulness, we begin to see our lives through a lens of grace, understanding that every moment, even the challenging ones, is an opportunity to grow in faith and dependence on Him.
Being thankful opens our eyes to the beauty in our lives and deepens our relationship with God.
What Does the Bible Say About Being Thankful in All Things?
The Bible is replete with verses encouraging us to give thanks in all situations. From Paul’s exhortations in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 to the Psalms’ many praises, Scripture teaches that gratitude is not dependent on our circumstances but on our relationship with God. Being thankful is a recurring theme that fosters spiritual growth, deepens our trust in God, and reflects a heart aligned with His will.
When the Bible says to give thanks in all things, it asks us to thank God for blessings, both visible and invisible. When He blesses, thank Him, and thank Him for the things unseen in which Christians place their hope.
Think of it: Always giving thanks for everything—no matter the circumstances! Thanksgiving for the Apostle Paul was not a once-a-year celebration, but a daily reality that changed his life and made him a joyful person in every situation.
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances. for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Why Should We Be Thankful for Everything?
Thankfulness transforms our perspective, reminding us that God is in control and that His plans are for our ultimate good. By cultivating gratitude, we acknowledge His faithfulness and His work in our lives. It helps us to see beyond our immediate struggles, fostering a deeper trust and reliance on God. Grateful hearts are more open to seeing His blessings and expressing love and joy to others.
