Welcome to the month of May!
Our new May Bible Reading Plan is for the woman who wants a deeper relationship with God. If you are looking to spend a quality time in an intimate relationship with God, you are right where you need to be.
This month, we are going to dig deep into the Word of God and learn what it means to have a relationship with God.
As we come to know God, we will find more peace, happiness, and meaning in our lives, even in a world of chaos. You can build and strengthen your relationship with God by focusing on spending time with him.
“And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent” —John 17:3

What Does It Mean to Have a Relationship with God?
A relationship with God is simply being in relationship with God. We come into that relationship by accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior and believing that what Jesus did on the cross and that he rose again does in fact give us salvation and adoption into God’s Kingdom.
He wants to be your friend and heavenly father. He wants you to know him, which is a deeply personal connection. At first, God may seem like a distant being, but He is not. He is very available. The more you know him, the more you will love Him and many, many other benefits will come. To know God, you need to be with God.
So let the Bible be the place where God meets you and speaks to you, and let the Bible be the place where you speak back to him. The relationship is in this communion: him to us, and us to him.
The first, best way to know God is to read, and/or listen to the Bible, which is also referred to as “God’s Word” or “Scripture.” Consider God’s word daily bread you cannot live without.
God Wants A Relationship With Us!
The Creator God of the universe wants to have a relationship with you! Even when we were sinners, He loved us so much He gave the ultimate sacrifice to make it possible for us to be forgiven and reconciled to Him (Romans 5:8-10).
And He wants us to have a close, personal relationship with Him—He wants us to “draw near” to Him and He will draw near to us (James 4:8). He says, “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).
Strengthening our personal relationship with God is a gradual journey marked by intentionality and consistency. Getting closer to God is like building any relationship—it takes time and effort.
Just like with friends or family, it is about spending time together, talking, and sharing what is on your mind. We need to live our lives knowing that we have been created for intimate union with God.
A Prayer for May
Father, I thank you and praise you that as I enter the month of May, You will show yourself strong in my life. Each day I need to walk with You. Your presence provides me security and comfort. As we walk together, Lord, may Your presence be reflected in my life, and may Your love dwell within my heart. I thank You for the promise in Scripture that if I ask anything according to Your will, you hear me. Thank you for keeping us safe and meeting every need. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen.
Reflection Questions:
- How much energy and effort am I putting into my relationship with God? Just as building a house requires labor, nurturing our friendship with God demands spiritual energy and effort. Are we intentionally investing in this relationship, or are we allowing other aspects of life to consume our focus? Psalm 127:1 reminds us that without the Lord’s involvement, our efforts are in vain1.
- What other areas of my life receive more effort and attention than my relationship with God? It is essential to evaluate our priorities. Are we pouring more energy into work, personal achievements, or relationships with others? Reflecting on this can help us realign our focus and invest in our friendship with God.
- Am I the same on the outside as I am on the inside? Job 29:4 speaks of the ripest time of life when the intimacies of friendship with God enveloped one’s tent. Are we authentic in our relationship with God, both externally and internally? Transparency and vulnerability lead to deeper connections.
Remember that the goal is not perfection but growing intimacy and experiencing the security and strength of being God’s friend. Take time to ponder these questions and seek ways to draw closer to the One who invites us into a wonderful friendship with His Son, Jesus Christ
