Mother’s Day is coming up and the first thing I always consider is…what am I going to get my mom? I know exactly what she likes, and every year I know exactly what to get her.
Moms are so often the basketball, football coach, cheerleader, carpool mom, and everything in between. Mothers give life, nurture, and support their children as they grow from babies to adults.
A mother loves her children all the time. She teaches, takes care of, and gives her children advice (wanted or unwanted!).
There are rarely a day goes by when she is not encouraging her children and giving pep talks…even I when it is not popular. She is known for multi-tasking, “doing it all,” praying day and night, that her family is safe. She is always encouraging, even on the go.
Mothers are amazing, and important, and should be celebrated every day, especially on Mother’s Day, when we focus on the blessing of being called “mom.”
My mom was a tremendous blessing to me and will always have an enormous impact on my life that will be remembered for a lifetime. God’s Women: You are Uniquely Tailored and Designed for Such a Time as This
For you created my inmost being and you knit me together in my mother’s womb. Psalm 139.13
Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! Isaiah 49:15
As a mother comfort her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem. Isaiah 66:13

What Does the Bible Say About Mother’s Day
As you can see, mothers play an important role in the Bible. We see courageous mothers in the Bible, such as Jochebed, who thoughtfully developed a plan to save Moses; Hannah, who begged God for a son, only to give Samuel back to God; and Sarah, who waited years and years to bear the long-promised Isaac. Of course, we cannot forget about Mary, the woman favored by God to birth Jesus the Messiah!
The Bible also talks about what a blessing it is to be a mother along with the many roles and tasks a mother is called to do. Being a mother may be intimidating, especially at times, as Christians we have the Holy Spirit to help and guide us along the way. As we lean into Jesus, He changes us into amazing mothers and women of God. Just take a deep breath woman of God. We have God on our side!
As you seek to be a godly mother, keep these scriptures in mind. Being a good mom is hard, but I am so thankful God helps us!
Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! Isaiah 49:15
As a mother comfort her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem. Isaiah 66:13
Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. Ephesians 6:1-3
Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. Exodus 21:12
You may not realize there is a promise that comes from honoring your father and mother.
This verse clearly teaches that there is a spiritual and physical consequence to honoring or dishonoring our mother or father. In addition, Exodus 21:12 does not say honor to your mother only on a designated day, but we are to give honor to our mothers everyday. Not only does God acknowledge the importance of honoring our mothers, but on the cross Jesus passed his responsibility to one of His beloved disciples.
When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home. John 19:26-27
Here are some of the best Scripture verses to soak in this Mother’s Day, and we can start at the beginning. We can start by look at the very first mother we find in the Bible, and in fact, in all of history.
Eve was a woman of many firsts. She was the first woman, she was the first wife, and she was the first mother. She is the only woman who was ever made without a mother or a father.
The Bible tells us that Eve was created with Adam in the image of God, she was commanded with Adam to rule over the world, she was commissioned with Adam to be fruitful and multiply, and she was created from Adam to be a partner for him.
Sarah
Sarah, the wife of Abraham, became a mother of nations, and kings came from her. She would be the mother of the royal line of King David from which the Savior would come. Who was this unique woman of faith, and what can we learn from her?
Sarah was promised a son, and his name was to be called Isaac (verse 19). God would establish His covenant with him (as He did with Abraham) for an everlasting covenant, and God would also establish His covenant with the descendants of Isaac.
The bible says, “By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised. Therefore, from one man, and him as good as dead, were born as many as the stars in multitude—innumerable as the sand which is on the seashore” (Hebrews 11:11-12).
Hannah – The Praying Mother
When we first encounter Hannah in 1 Samuel, she is suffering terribly. Not only is she barren, but her husband, Elkanah, has another wife named Peninnah. Not only that, but Peninnah has children while Hannah does not. Not only that but when they go up to the feast in Shiloh each year, she is reminded of her barrenness when Elkanah gives portions of meat to Peninnah and all her sons and daughters. Not only that but Peninnah is cruel to her, intentionally provoking her until she breaks down crying and is unable to eat. Remember, this is the annual feast, so this is like Thanksgiving for us. Imagine being so upset that you could not eat Thanksgiving dinner.
So, what do you do when you are hurting and suffering? You bring it to the Lord in prayer. Which is exactly what Hannah does here in 1 Samuel. We actually see two prayers of Hannah in 1 Samuel. In 1 Samuel 1 we see Hannah’s prayer of despair. And in 1 Samuel 2 we see her prayer of triumph. Both are important, and both teach us important truths about prayer for our own lives.
In the process of time, God answered Hannah’s prayer and she conceived and had a son. Because she had asked for him from the Lord, she named him Samuel, which means “asked or heard of God” (Unger’s Bible Dictionary, p. 962). Hannah kept her word as she had vowed. After Samuel was weaned, she presented him to Eli the priest.

6 Powerful Mother’s Day Scriptures for Moms This Mother’s Day
Below you will find six beautiful blessings of a mother.
She’s Meek and Humble.
God loves you and has chosen you as his own special people. So be gentle, kind, humble, meek, and patient. Put up with each other, and forgive anyone who does you wrong, just as Christ has forgiven you. Love is more important than anything else. It is what ties everything completely together. Colossians 3:12-14
She is gracious.
“God’s unfailing love for us is an objective fact affirmed over and over in the Scriptures. It is true whether we believe it or not. Our doubts do not destroy God’s love, nor does our faith create it. It originates in the very nature of God, who is love, and it flows to us through our union with His beloved Son. But the experience of that love and the comfort it is intended to bring is dependent upon our believing the truth about God’s love as it is revealed to us in the Scriptures.” Isaiah writes in chapter 62:
She loves unconditionally.
Love is patient, love is kind. Love is humble all the time. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NIV
She is a strong Mom.
She exemplifies strength. Being a strong mom is more about how we perceive ourselves rather than how others perceive us.
She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. Proverbs 31:25 NLT
When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness. She carefully watches everything in her household and suffers nothing from laziness. Her children stand and bless her. Proverbs 31:26-28 NLT
She Sacrifice so Much.
“She- One who sacrifices her Time, body, sleep, social life, spending money, eating hot meals, energy, and sanity for Love.” – Unknown
She will flourish in every season of life.
“How joyful are those who fear the Lord- all who follow His ways! You will enjoy the fruit of your labor. How joyful and prosperous you will be! Your wife will be like a fruitful grapevine, flourishing in your home. Your children will be like vigorous young olive trees as they sit around your table. That is the Lord’s blessing for those who fear Him.” PSALM 128:1-4
