How Do I Start the Day with God?

I like to start my day in a quiet place with the Lord, with prayer and in His Word. Most days, I wake up at 5:30 a.m. before any interruptions to start my day. The moment I awake, I say Psalm 91 (NIV) to myself—I repeat the verse several times. It’s become a great way to start a day:

What does your daily morning routine look like? Do you wake up early in the morning, grab your bible to pray, or do you roll over to scroll Instagram or Facebook, after hitting the snooze button for the fourth time? Starting your morning with Jesus puts everything in order.

No matter how your day begins, there is no better feeling than to know that God loves you. Just to know that God loves you, makes you want to love, like He loves.

And to remind me of God’s love for me, I encourage myself daily by reading and meditating on the Word of God, encouraging myself with inspirational bible verses to start my day. The more I spend time in God’s Word, the more my faith becomes stronger.

Jesus said, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33 (NIV)

So reading scripture in the morning is a great first step every day.

Here we have collected the best Bible verses for the morning to start your day and to keep you encouraged through the day. May these scriptures help your walk-in faith as a refreshing reminder every morning.

What’s A Good Bible Verse for the Day?

I love the Psalms to pray in the mornings. Knowing that God is the strength of my heart.

Psalm 73:25-26
Whom have I in heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire besides You. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

“Whom have I in heaven but You?” The psalmist knows that when we have God, we have everything we could ever need. There is no cause for worry or fretting for a child of God. There is nothing this earth can offer that should be of such great desire for us, for He is our portion, and we are all-sufficient in Him. He meets our every need and is our strength and portion forever!

What Does God Say About Waking up Early?

Every person is different when starting their day. Different people need different amounts of sleep. Some have said that on the average a person needs six hours of sleep. Others say that he needs eight hours.

There can be much controversy concerning this matter. May we all learn to do this before God. We should find the number of hours of sleep that we need and start our day.

I believe every morning when we wake up, we should get out of bed immediately, if not, you will be tempted to fall asleep again.

Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed.” – Mark 1:35

“Each day Jesus was teaching at the temple, and each evening he went out to spend the night on the hill called the Mount of Olives, and all the people came early in the morning to hear him at the temple.” – Luke 21:37-38

Proverbs 6:9-11 says, “How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep so, shall thy poverty come as one that traveleth, and thy want as an armed man.”

Is this not the condition of many people? If we sleep a little and slumber a little, we will rise up the same time as we did before.

Mark 1:35 And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.

Psalm 143:8

Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.

Proverbs 31:15

She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens.

Psalm 119:148

My eyes are awake before the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promise.

Prayer to Pray to Start Your Day

Here is a prayer that you can pray every morning to start your day.

Father, In the Name of Jesus, As I start this day, help me remember that I belong to you, and my desire is to act accordingly. Keep my feet from stumbling and my mind from wandering into distractions that could steal precious time and energy from the most important things you have designed for me. I’m proud to be your child, Lord.

And I’m so grateful that you died for me—rising again on your own new morning—so that every day could be filled with the wonder of your love, the freedom of your Spirit, and the joy of knowing you. I want to live today as if it were the first or the last day of my life, giving thanks for every good and perfect gift you choose to give. Today, and every day, I want to live my life for you, Jesus. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
