Back to School season is upon us once again. And what better way to prepare our students for success than proclaiming a few back to school prayers for starting back to school?

It is so amazing how times fly. As the summer ends, it is time to prepare our kids for another successful year of school. We start by praying a Back to School Prayer over our children, teachers, and staff, as they begin a new school year. And I believe as our kids head back to school, the best gift that we can give them is the gift of prayer.

Back to school prayers are a great way to giving our children to God, and bringing all our worries, anxieties, and concerns to God at the beginning of the school year and throughout the rest of the year.

Of course, back-to-school prayers are just the beginning of the prayers we will be praying over our children for the course of a lifetime, but this is a great time of year to start.

Prayer is one of the most effective and best ways to see that your child has the best year. Not without challenges, of course, but equipped for all the new adventures that will face them this school year, and praying powerful back-to-school prayers over your children is number one priority.

Prayers using God’s Word are powerful prayers, and you can expect to see God honor His Word and show up in personal ways.

Isaiah 54:13: “All thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children.” Every time I hear a report of violence and terror in our schools, I will say out loud, “Our children are taught of the Lord and great is the peace and the anointing on them!”

Back to School Prayers

Whether it’s the first day of school, pre-school, kindergarten, middle school, high school, college, they all need our prayers, not only to begin a new school year, but prayers that will carry them throughout the years, and what a great way to prepare our children for blessings and a great successful school year, then starting school with prayer as the foundation to cover and protect them.

As parents we cannot control everything about our children’s lives, but one thing I know to be true, we can pray over them, because prayer changes things.

Prayer is essential to begin any school year, I begin by equipping our children with Psalms 91. You may have certain scriptures or chapters in the Bible that you refer to more than others.

One of those for me is the 91st psalm. Here are some areas that I am praying over this year…maybe they will help you too!

As parents, be determined to teach your children the importance of reading the 91st psalm and claiming the promises contained within it. All of my children took that seriously, and of course, I would remind them of those promises daily.

I encourage you to make it a daily practice to read the 91st psalm. The more you read it, the more it will become a daily confession in your life. Immediately when the enemy tries to play havoc in my life, I quote scripture that applies to the situation. Verse 10 (AMPC) may apply to many these days, “There shall no evil befall you, nor any plague or calamity come near your tent.”

So, as we face this upcoming school year, with so many new beginnings, we can move in the right direction by getting in alignment with God and His Word.

Considering the unpredictable realities they will face this year; our prayers will do so much more than worrying and fretting.

Father, thank you for hearing our prayers and that Your Word does not come back void. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer is a very powerful weapon; God has given us to get close to Him. It is also a powerful way of fighting the schemes of the devil. The truth is prayer really does change things. It did in the Bible and still does today.

“I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours” (John 17:9 NIV).

Jesus reflected the father heart of God when he prayed for the disciples. As a father or mother, you can pray prayers over your children that will keep them safe throughout the school year. As you pray for your children this school year,

We can pray that our children will live for Christ joyfully: “I say these things while I’m still in the world so that they will have the same joy that I have” (John 17:13b GW).

We can pray that our children will grow strong spiritually: “I’m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one” (John 17:15 NLT, second edition).

We can pray that our children will serve Christ effectively: “Make them ready for your service through your truth; your teaching is truth” (John 17:17 NCV).

We can pray that our children will experience fellowship personally: “My prayer is that they will be of one heart and mind, just as you and I are, Father . . . and the world will believe you sent me” (John 17:21 TLB).

We can pray that our children will bring others to Christ regularly: “I pray not only for them, but also for those who believe in me because of their message” (John 17:20 GNT).

So as our children go back to school, prayer is very important. We need to ensure our prayers cover them- their minds, bodies, and souls so that they are equipped to handle a new school year. So, take a moment now, and thanks God for the protection of our children. No power can withstand the power that God has provided for those who dwell in Him.

Back to School Prayer for the First Day of School

“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” – Proverbs 22:6

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9

God, this is the first day of school for our children. Please help [child’s name] to be strong and courageous today. Help them to face any obstacles and challenges with bravery, knowing that you are there with them wherever they go. Amen.

For the angel of the Lord is a guard; he surrounds and defends all who fear him. Psalm 34:7 NLT

Father, in the Name of Jesus,

As our children prepare for the first day of school, I ask that you bless them with wisdom and stature as they grow in knowledge. I also ask that you guide them in following your commandments.

Help them not to worry about things they cannot control but guard their hearts and minds and keep them trusting in You.

Give them courage as they meet new friends, to be kind and accepting of one another.  I pray for their safety as they travel daily to and from school. I pray for their teachers and staff that they may have what it takes to teach our children the right way.

I know that with your help, they can overcome any challenges, or obstacles that may come their way. Make it a good day for them academically, full of joy and peace. May they rise to the challenges set in front of them, and may they never be too busy to help someone else along the way. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Back to School Prayer for Students

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day. Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday. Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you. Just open your eyes and see how the wicked are punished. If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home. For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go. They will hold you up with their hands, so you will not even hurt your foot on a stone. You will trample upon lions and cobras; you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet! The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them. I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.” Psalms 91:1-16 NLT

Father in the Name of Jesus, I stand on the verse 1 Corinthians 7:14 on behalf of my household and I declare that You, Lord, are our refuge and our place of safety. You are our God, and we trust in you (Psalm 91:2)

I thank you Lord that you will protect our children from every trap and protect them from every deadly disease that includes Covid-19 (Psalm 91: 3)

Lord, I thank you that your feathers cover them, and you hide them under the shelter of your wings. I thank you, Lord God, that your faithful promises are their armor and protection (Psalm 91:4)

Lord your word says ” We must not be afraid of the terror of night nor the arrow that flies by day. (Psalm 91:5)

In the name of Jesus, our children will not dread the disease (Covid 19) that stalks in the darkness nor the disaster that strikes at midday (Psalm 91:6)

Though a thousand may fall at their sides and 10,000 are dying around them, because of your faithfulness Lord God, this evil will not touch them. [ If there is more than one child, I name each one by names here) – (Psalm 91:7)

Your word also says that if we make you our refuge and shelter, no evil will conquer us and no plague (no coronavirus, or sickness) will come near our dwelling. I decree this over my children. (Psalm 91: 9-10).

Lord God, I thank you that you order your angels with special orders to protect our children wherever they go. I thank you Lord God, that right now your angels are holding my children up in their right hands, so they will not even dash their foot against a stone (Psalm 91: 11-12)

According to Luke 10:19 and Psalm 91:13- You have given us the authority to trample upon fierce lions, cobras, and serpents under our feet in Jesus’ name. Therefore, we will crush coronavirus under our feet in Jesus’s name. Hallelujah!!!(Psalm 91:13)

Lord, I pray for supernatural wisdom and strength for every teacher, every school official, janitors, bus drivers, bus monitors and the school staff. I pray for a supernatural hedge of protection over the parents and the children through the blood of Jesus. I pray for a peace that surpasses all understanding over every one of them in Jesus’ name.

I pray for a holy ring of fire of protection over and around the school property and around all the other schools. I plead the blood of Jesus over the school staff and all the parents and children in Jesus’ name.

Lord God, I especially stand in the gap and ask for supernatural protection through the blood of Jesus over both the little children and the older kids, and college students. Give them wisdom and spiritual understanding in Jesus’ name.

Lord, we thank you for all answered prayers. We give you all the praise, glory and all the honor, the glory, and the highest praise in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen and Hallelujah!!!

Back to School Prayer for Wisdom

Our children today are faced with so many challenges that would distract them. Never have they required wisdom and understanding more. The wisdom of God in the heart of our children can guide them through life and always give them peace. Having the wisdom of God means trusting God and letting him lead you through life.

When we know, honor and worship God, this is the beginning of having God’s wisdom in our lives. The bible also lets us know that Christ is the wisdom of God made manifest on the earth.

“And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption. 1 Cor 1:30 ESV

God is more than willing to give us wisdom when we ask him. It is his desire that we walk and grow in wisdom even as we shine forth his light and love on the earth today. You can ask God for wisdom today.

As parents we have to be an example. By being an example to our children, we will be better able to help them navigate the barrage of choices flung at them by the culture of the world.

Take encouragement from the fact that our God is fully in control of all things. Remind yourself that “we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

  • If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5 NIV
  • But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.” James 3:17 NIV
  • Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12 NIV
  • The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever! [Psalm 111:10, ESV]
  • Does not wisdom call? Does not understanding raise her voice? … “And now, O sons, listen to me: blessed are those who keep my ways. Hear instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it. Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors. For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the LORD” [Proverbs 8:1, 32-35 ESV]

Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill our children with spiritual wisdom and understanding and enable them to live to Your praise and glory. Lord, I ask You to cause Your wisdom to bear fruit in our children’s lives, so that their knowledge of You would grow and grow. We decree that our children stay focused and keep their eyes on you.

Lord, give our children wisdom and reveal Your deep and hidden truth to their inner being, that they would know and love You completely, and believe You fully. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Back To School Prayer to Fight Peer Pressure

As believers, it is important for us to check our hearts and not be persuaded when those around us are trying to push us into situations that compromise our integrity.

Are we honoring God when we want to travel the directions that others are traveling, and not listen to God? Are we growing spiritually or moving further off track?

When we are pushed into peer pressure, we turn to God for help and encouragement.

Father in the Name of Jesus,

I pray for the peace of God to rest upon my son/daughter as they walk into their classrooms this year.

There will be academic challenges, peer pressure, successes and failures. But through it all, we pray for our children to be strong in the Lord this school year.  Know matter what challenges they face, You will bring them through them

Father, in the Name of Jesus,

We pray for our children to overcome their fears, strengthen their weaknesses, and grow in their walk with you. Regardless of what they may face, we pray they will first rely on you and then work hard to be their very best in whatever they do.

We know you are always with us, and we pray that our children will never forget you are by their side. We pray they will be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

  • “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.” — 1 Corinthians 16:13, NIV
  • Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise,
but the companion of fools will suffer harm. Proverbs 13:20
  • Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2
  • For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ. Galatians 1:10
  • No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13

Back to School Prayer for All Teachers

Teachers are pressured by the demands of the role and therefore back to school prayer helps because teachers will then trust in the Lord and not lean on their own understanding or academic ability; But rather, giving the Father control of every area of their lives. By doing so, He will direct your path (Proverbs 3:5-6).

“I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” —

Father, in the Name of Jesus, we pray for all our teachers throughout this land, and pray that You would guide, protect, and keep them in all their ways, as they acknowledge you as their Lord. Father, teach them as they teach our children. Help them as they help our children, and strengthen them, as you strengthen our children.

Father, we keep you as the head of our schools, teachers, and all administrators.

Lord, we pray that You will challenge the hearts of our educators to recognize that vulnerabilities of children and to balance discipline with dignity and control with care.

Help our teachers to be conscious of the need for constructive criticism rather than destructive fault finding and to offer a motivating environment which embraces fairness, honesty, and integrity with appropriate praise. Teach them to love our children as you love them. And to create a learning environment where trust is nurtured and not exploited.

Lord, we pray that You would raise up teachers with godly standards and unbiased teaching techniques, and we pray that our classrooms and teachers return to the godly principles, which our forefathers held dear. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Back to School Prayer to Give Our Children Hearts for Learning

Out of the heart flow the issues of life, so nurturing our children’s hearts is key.

Lord, our children are gifts from you. We hold them close to our hearts and pour all we have into their lives. We will forever lead them to You. Father, forgive us for holding on to them so tightly, we forget they are yours. Today we ask for courage to give them back to you. All for your glory. In Jesus Name. Amen.

  • Jeremiah 29:13 — You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
  • Psalm 86:11-12 — Teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart, so that I may honor you. With all my heart I will praise you, O Lord my God. I will give glory to your name forever.

  • Proverbs 4:23 — Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.

  • Galatians 5:22-23 — But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Scripture: Intelligent people are always ready to learn. Their ears are open to knowledge. Proverbs 18:15 NLT

Father, in the Name of Jesus, give our children a thirst for you. A thirst for knowledge, wisdom, and understanding that comes from you. May their hearts be ready and excited to learn this year, at home, school, and church. Open the eyes in the center of their hearts, as they crave knowledge and seek it out. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Back to School Prayer to Give Our Children the Strength to Succeed.

Isaiah 54:13 – All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children.

Father, in the Name of Jesus, it is my prayer, as I intercede on behalf of our children, and stand in faith, that this year will be a successful one for our children. They will begin to walk in righteousness and see new opportunities flooding their hearts and minds.

Father, let them realize that the strength of God within them is bigger and stronger than any problem. We will support our children during challenging times by using affirmations to help them claim their inner strength as they patiently trust you, as they work through the hard task.

Rivers of living water will flow through them, exposing the awesome wonder of Who You really are.

The power and peace that will overtake them will have them wanting more of You. I pray that they will learn to ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom and as they walk in victory and obedience, they will also declare that Jesus is their Lord and Savior. They discover they can accomplish anything. And they do!In Jesus Name. Amen.

Back to School Prayer to Show Our Kids the Right Path

Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow. Psalms 25:4 NLT

Heavenly Father, show our children the right path this school year. May they not be influenced by the unwise but seek your purposes in all things. Guide their choices. Show us the right path as a family. That we would place our time and energy on the things you want us to invest in.

Thank You that our children will read and meditate on Your words, which are a light for their path. Thank You for Your Holy Spirit Who will reveal to them Your plan for them. My children treasure their life with and for You. Thank You, Father, for holding my children’s future in the palm of Your hand. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Back to School Prayer to Pray Peace over Our Children

Peace: “Do not worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”

Father, in the Name of Jesus, all our children are taught of you, and great is the peace of our children. Father, I am praying for peace for every child, today. I am praying that they will lean on You for strength and courage.

I thank you Lord that they will know that you love them and that you care for them. I pray that they know you are a God of grace and that there is nothing they can do to win your love. That You already chosen them and that they are special to You.

God, I ask that You protect every little one from the schemes and tricks of the enemy. I ask that you surround them like a shield, and have others surround them with love and grace. I pray they understand who You really are, and you teach us as parents to show them who you really are and who they are in You.

Holy Spirit, I ask that You remind us as parents to pray DAILY for our children, to go to war for our children so that the enemy will not sweep them up! I come against every plan of the enemy right now and I say NOT SO! In Jesus Name. You cannot have our children! In Jesus Name!

Father, there are so many things that can rob our peace. I pray for Your peace that passes all understanding to guard their heart & mind today in Christ Jesus. Remind our children, that You give them peace not as the world gives. Help them to trust You with all their heart & not lean on their own understanding. Give him Your perfect peace as they fix their mind on You today, because they trust You. In Jesus Name. Amen. (Phil. 4:7John 14:27Prov. 3:5Isaiah 26:3)

Father, protect them from sickness and injuries; heal any infirmities that might be attacking their body. I know You took all our sickness on the cross and by Your stripes our children are healed. Sustain them Lord when they are weak and restore health and healing to their body. Protect them from disease, virus, and illness, in Jesus’ name. Amen. (3 John 1:2Is. 53:5Psalm 41:3Psalm 91:5-6)
